Rohit Sharma’s century helps India cross the line as they register their first win in the opener of World Cup 2019 against South Africa. It was his second century in the World Cup. He also surpassed Sourav Ganguly in the list of most ODI Hundreds with 23 tons. Hit man was not at his best although managaed to score a century as RSA missed a few chances on the field.
South Africa’s skipper Faf du Plesis won the toss and elected to bat first scoring 227 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. India’s pace attack Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah managed to build the pressure from start of the innings. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed both the RSA openers Amla and de Kock cheaply. Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal bowled brilliantly bowling out the middle order. Kuldeep Yadav took an important wicket to dismiss Duminy.
Bhuvaneshwar Kumar picked up two wickets in the end to restrict RSA to 227. India’s openers had to face a tough spell from Rabada and Chris Morris. Rabada bowled a outstanding spell removing Shikhar Dhawan and nearly Rohit Sharma, thanks to the dropped catch from Faf du Plesis. Rohit Sharma was intact on one end with small partnerships from Kohli, Rahul and Dhoni in the middle order. Rohit scored a brilliant 122 with 13 fours and 2 sixes in a pressure game with Hardik Pandya giving a finishing touch with 15 runs of just 7 balls to get the team through. South Africa lost their third consecutive match of World Cup 2019.
