The results of 17th Lok Sabha Elections have been declared. Bhartiya Janta Party with 303 seats has emerged as the largest party. BJP with its allies NDA have won 353 seats. In 17th Lok Sabha Election 724 women candidates contested the Lok Sabha Elections out of which 78 women MPs have been elected. In 2014 General Election 62 women MPs were elected. With 78 women MPs elected, the 17th Lok Sabha has the highest number of women MPs.
The representation of women MPs in Lok Sabha is increasing significantly. In 1 st Lok Sabha there were only 5% of women MPs in Lok Sabha whereas 17 th Lok Sabha with 14% representation of women MPs in Lok Sabha has made record for highest number of women MPs. In Lok Sabha Elections 2019 Indian National Congress has fielded maximum women candidates at 54 while Bhartiya Janta Party fielded 53 women candidates. Though 17th Lok Sabha has highest number of women MPs, the representation of women in Lok Sabha is still very low.
