Before some years, the dream of Make in India seemed quite ambitious but with various technologies, businesses and major structures being developed completely in India, the dream now seems to be coming true. With one more major step in achieving the same dream and with a strong desire of making India super powerful Nation, the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB), has developed 155 mm towed Howitzers known as ‘Dhanush’ for our Indian Army.
These 155mm X 45mm artillery guns known as ‘Dhanush’ and are popularly referred to as ‘Desi Bofors’ Dhanush artillery guns, which will be replacing the older 105 mm Indian Field Gun, 105 mm Light Field Gun and the 122 mm Russian Guns, is said to be the first long range artillery gun with a better rate of fire and a strike range of 38 kilometres.
The Desi Bofors, along with the above mentioned features, are also equipped with inertial navigation based sighting system, auto-laying facility, on-board ballistic computation and an advanced day and night direct firing system.
These guns were handed over to the army for the initial trials in July, 2016. After failing them and remodifying them, the final testing was completed in June, 2018. These final trials were included firing of about 5000 shells in the desert areas as well as the icy glaciers of the Himalayas without any incident.
Four Dhanush artillery guns which are made in India were inducted in the Indian Army on 26th March 2019 and will be soon deployed on the east and west borders joining China and Pakistan respectively. Beware, enemies!
